One frontline webserver suffering under load

UPDATE 01/21/15 10:10am CST: The server in question has been fast and healthy for a full week, so I'm closing this as fixed.


Twice this week -- both in the evening, including just now -- there have been brief periods, of between eight and fifteen minutes, of very poor performance on one of the frontline webservers. Your IndieMade operations team think they have it under control now but we'll leave this status update on yellow until we're convinced it's totally fixed.

DNS Outage for Some Users

For several hours earlier this morning, some customers were unable to reach IndieMade sites. This was caused by an outage with our DNS provider. The provider, Rackspace, informed us that the final problems had been resolved by about 1:00pm CST today, and we have verified that over the last two hours traffic has been flowing normally. Everything is back to normal now.

So what happened?

One frontline webserver down

UPDATE 12/13/14 07:16am CST: The cause of the problem was a failure in the networking stack. The operations team has fixed the problem and everything is back to normal on that server again.


Unfortunately one of the frontline webservers has become unresponsive. We're working on it and will update this status when we know more.

PayPal Not Properly Adding Shipping

UPDATE 10/11/14 2:55pm CST: All customers who were affected by PayPal's bug have been notified with a list of orders to review, plus some tips for how to resolve the issue. Some customers report that they've been able to get PayPal to pay for the shipping fees that weren't collected -- it's worth a try.

As we've done all we can on this, and the bug has been fixed at PayPal's side, we're going to consider this issue closed. As always you can open a support ticket if you need help on this matter.

Brief Downtime on Sunday for Maintenance

UPDATE 09/28/14 7:40pm CST: In the end, only a single server needed a reboot, and the service automatically recovered as expected. We'll still be on hand for the rest of the night, just in case -- but it looks like everything's green from here on out.

Intermittent performance issues on frontline webserver

UPDATE 09/27/14 12:00pm CST: Performance has been snappy for a full 24 hours, so we're closing this. All OK.

UPDATE 09/26/14 11:15am CST: Our operations support at Rackspace have identified the problem and have made some initial changes. Performance on the affected server is excellent again as I write this, but we're going to leave this status update on yellow until we're sure the problem doens't recur.

Etsy Connect Feature Down

Green

UPDATE 07/15/14 3:15pm CST: Etsy reports that they've made some changes to the configuration of their network, which led to these problems as an unintended side-effect. They believe that they've addressed the source of the problems, and on our test sites the data is flowing again. We're going to call this issue closed, but if you have any problems, please feel free to contact support.

Filesystem issue on one frontline webserver

UPDATE 06/10/14 04:19am: The filesystem has been repaired and the affected sites are back online. We'll continue monitoring to make sure continues to be OK.

We've had a filesystem problem on one of the frontline webservers. While the system repairs it, sites that webserver are down. We expect the outage to be brief, and will update this item when the sites are back online.
